Living single in Hong Kong, in rent free flat, and no cooking at home, eating out every day : my annual spending on basic essentials comes roughly to HKD $ 85,510 = S $15,600 per year ( or S$1300 per month ).
Meals in cafes etc = $ 40,150
Gas for hot showers = $ 1,440
Electric for aircon = $ 8,400
Broadband = $ 2,160
3G mobile = $ 960
Govt Rates & Rent = $ 8,000
Flat Service charge = $ 19,200
Travel expenses = $ 5,200

I didn't know that one can actually survive reasonably on S$1300 per month in HK. Interesting thanks for sharing. I think singapore probably less than S$1k per month for similar lifestyle

How about a visit to a general practitioner clinic?
Recently, the cost of a visit to a private clinic in Singapore has increased to around S$40-50.
Polyclinic in Singapore is cheap for common ailments($10-20?) but if you need non-subsidized drugs, the price will still be substantial.

Rental Cost can be substantial for typical folks. Will be interesting to know the norm. How about insurance and parent allowances ?

In October 2015, a visit to a polyclinic in Singapore:
( prices are after subsidies including absorption of GST)
Consultation ( GP ) = $11.90
Antibiotics (Amoxicillin Clavulanate)
10 tab (500mg) =$0.65cts
Antibiotic cream 15g(Bactroban)=$6.50
And just additional info:
A colonoscopy at Tan Tock Seng in Jan 2016 = $1,015.71
After subsidies =$490.42

Visit to private doctor in Yuen Long ( town near to border ) charged me HKD$250 for one visit including 2 days medicine including tablets and mouthwash . Its cheaper at Government clinic but too many go there and may be 2 hours waiting sitting with other sick people.
For elder residents (over 65) there is Govt annual subsidy up to $2000 credit which medical practices if joined to the Govt scheme can charge their bill.
Typical Monthly Rental of 500-600 sq ft flats may cost HKD $ 10K-12K in Yuen Long ( but it takes one hour travel to go to work in city areas ) and HKD$15K-25K near to central areas .

Probably more stressful in HK than in Sg. Higher air polution everywhere in southern China but you have similar smoke problem arising from illegal indonesian forest clearance.
More people in HK including many china day visitors pushing suitcases on wheels or dragging trolley in the streets and shopping malls. A trolley pulled by a lady visitor may suddenly cut in front and cause you to trip over.
Shop rents are rising quickly and many new businesses are opening to catch the china day visitors and causing fast food and restaurant to raise prices more quickly.

I don't pay any monthly rent to the flat owner ( but if flat is rented out to a tenant, the monthly rent may be around $10K-$12K per month. ) but I pay the other costs :
Govt rates and Ground rent charge at $2K per quarter costing HKD $8000 per year.
Service charge for flat ( my estate has clubhouse and pool) costs HKD $1600 per month = $19,200 per year.

Sorry for the curiosity... u related to the flat owner that he let you stay effectively for just HK$8k + HK$19.2k = HK$27.2k a year instead of HK$120k-HK$144k? 
I always have the impression that living cost and housing cost in HK for average Joe is much higher than Singapore.
