A recent example i can remember CCS at work, is the SATS-Creuers proposed acquisition of SCS (Spore Cruise Center) from a subsidiary of Temasek. SATS-Creuers already manages the operations of Marina Bay Cruise Center and accquiring SCC would mean it having almost monopoly over the operations of all the ferry terminals of Spore.

Here's an extract from the press release:
CCS is unable to conclude that the proposed acquisition would not raise competition concerns, based on information furnished during the Phase 1 review. The merger will proceed to Phase 2 review, upon receipt of Form M2 by the parties

Although unfavorable at the initial stage, it remains to be seen whether SATS will eventually be denied the golden goose on a plate by Temasek.

BTW CCS dont cover telcos, banks, transport.....if not, MTI will be the most powerful ministry around....

Govts all over work by complaints. No complaints no problem. If you want something done, stop complaining to the right channel or publicly.

Agree with piggo like I posted in another thread some time back, our 3G is even slower than Siem Reap or 2.75G edge in Malaysia which IMHO is ridiculous

With the rise of social media and communication apps such as Whatsapp, people think telcos are doomed because use of SMS text messages are in serious decline.

But many people forget that telcos still hold the trump card because no matter what, your smartphone is pretty much useless without good bandwidth. What telcos lose in SMS charges, they can make it up by charging people for the increase in bandwidth usage and 4G network. Smile

Telcos still win!

The problem is telcos are NOT seeing it that way!

Even if they now earn more with data than sms, they are now saying data is "causing" a decline in sms revenue.

Hence their "valid" attempts to claw back this revenue.

Telcos will not change 4G service prices for existing customers on minimum term contracts

SINGAPORE — In an about-turn, telecommunications company StarHub will not be charging its SmartSurf customers who use its 4G service S$2.14 a month from June after the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore investigated the matter.

The IDA said in a media release this evening (April 23) that the three telco operators here have decided not to change 4G service prices for existing customers with minimum term contracts.

M1, SingTel and StarHub have offered 4G services as part of mobile data bundle promotions and have positioned them as value-added services in promotional material and service terms and conditions.

The IDA noted significant confusion among consumers over the service plans they have signed up for, and that operators should not change prices mid-way that affect customers with minimum term contracts, if they were not clear to customers upfront what those price changes might be.

The regulator said the operators could have done more at points-of-sale and other channels to communicate their 4G value-added service position to customers.

“We value our customers’ feedback and we understand their concerns about the new promotional rate for “4G Speed Boost”. After careful consideration, we decided to further extend the free promotion to existing customers of our SmartSurf Lite/Value/Premium/Elite price plans till the end of their contract,” said Mr Chan Kin Hung, StarHub’s Senior Vice President of Mobility. He added, however, that with the telco has been “upfront with customers” with regard to the promotion.
