Promoting Value Buddies.com

Was trying to "promote" Value Buddies on my blog but cannot be too obvious also. Am hoping other familiar people like Lark come back soon too.....

It would be great to have more forummers adding width and depth to our discussions. I believe there are many who would come IF they know this site exists.

Although i've been promoting to a few friends, i wonder if we want to or can do more to help ourselves - granted we are probably not looking at spending money on advertising expenses. For starters, i googled Wallstraits and Afralug and this site only appears on the former. Have we added both these and other key words to the metacode?

I am into marketing (although not really "e") and am happy to volunteer assistance if viable.

My personal thought is to keep within value investing circle.
It's not really much about quantity, isn't it?

Hmm...I'm not sure if there's really a need to promote Value Buddies. So far, I've done some word of mouth to friends that I know are interested in Investing but that's something like 2 people. =)

But anyway, if we really do plan on promoting Value Buddies more aggressively, the more important things to do before doing any mass promotion, in my opinion, would be:

a) Ask Admin (Cyclone) what the technical constraints of an increased number of people accessing the site might be.
b) Have a sticky thread to detailing the spirit and philosophy of the forum so that newer members have an idea of what to expect from a forum like ours. Of course this could be combined effort of existing forummers.

There's no technical constraints if traffic doubles or triples. The forum is very scalable now. If the forum is really busy, we just need to upgrade to a $30 vps hosting or more with a "button click". Vice-versa.

I think there are more admin constraints than technical constraints.
The moderators will have to work harder to delete posts that are irrelevant, settle complaints among members, moderate posts, issue warnings etc...

Haha, no lah, so far I think all members are very well-behaved. Everyone is polite and civil even if their views may differ. Let's hope it stays that way even as the forum grows from strength to strength!

I think we have to be objective if we want to expand the forum aggressively. What is the purpose? Is this forum going to be a tool to educate the public financially? Are the founders intent to make a profit out of this like Wallstraits? Or is it going to pursue a similar destiny like Facebook, becoming the top investment forum in the world?

This forum is created for like-minded individuals to share and exchange on their investment ideas on our local companies. If individuals are savy enough to research on investment topics online, they would naturally find their way here and contribute willingly.

I agree with mrEngineer here. I think word-of-mouth is good enough to spread a forum such as this one. No need for aggressive recruitment. We are a non-profit forum, hence, no need for hard-sell tactics. I like the environment here, but if aggressive advertising is going to attract the wrong crowds, I'd much rather it remain small, as selfish as it may sound.
