I am actually quite happy with the new banding system for PSLE. At least when my elder is in P6, and I think he can make the band, I won't be so bother. Let him have some time to play and do something he like!
Relax for kids mean that parents can relax too!

Salary of teachers aside, there are just so many things to frown upon ...
- The numerous projects that students nowadays have to engage in. - Some schools even have ridiculous Sh** like compulsory to have 2 ccas. - besides A levels, now even have that new ib program. As usual, always in the name of holistic education, haha how true? - Attitude of students in some schools. I was shared by a friend that he went through 2 questions during lecture in detail. The next day, he flashed the 2 same questions for a test, more than half the cohort failed. haha isnt it funny? - Teachers have almost no more authority in punishing students. I still like the good old days when my teacher threw my book out of the window. The humiliation made me a better person. haha .... Many things to criticise but the teachers dont have an easy time in school either. So dont fault their high salary. And then the good schools will look out for their CCAs, social services, special abilities, IQ, EQ. Because of all these, the primary schools will start to load all the students with CCAs, competitions, volunteering, IQ tests, EQ training. So.. back to square one... Getting four A* is not enough. Volunteer work + 1 pt, math olympiad +1 pt, represent school +1pt...

So now is to train my elder in IQ, EQ, vocal skills, presentation skills, do social volunteering, & participate in as many CCA as possible and excel in them? Singapore schools now are training 十项全能? Ouch! That would be tougher than getting a high score in PSLE!

I think the system is probably worst with banding since the students will be expected to do more to put themselves above the average. Look at O level, in order to get to RI or HCI for A level confidently, it is not 6 pts but 2 pts. So 4A* for PSLE is not good enough to enter RI..haha.
