As a Singaporean, I have made a life decision which gave people the impression that I am a failure. I have never owned a single car ever in my life. Period.
Just curious, may I ask if any other forummers here share this in common with me? I know the people here are quite well-off because this is a money forum, so there may be very few of such individuals.

Haha you can include me as well, never owned a car in my life, and I've been working for 12 years. Just pains me to think of the compounding that I will miss out on!

Haha. It is only on this forum that I actually feel proud to tell people I have never owned a single car in my life. In real life, people probably think I am a failure at my career.

funny that ownership of a car can determine whether if u are successful or failure in life?? :O
maybe we should not be too emotional about it, just be prudent, 
Cost of car Vs Needs of car, determine which outweights each, then decide accordingly, transportation is a service which incurs cost, that's all.
Nothing successful nor failure about it. Just plain logic i feel, there's no free lunch, especially in singapore! 
1) Try NOT to LOSE money!
2) Do NOT SELL in BEAR, BUY-BUY-BUY! invest in managements/companies that does the same!
3) CASH in hand is KING in BEAR!
4) In BULL, SELL-SELL-SELL!

U know? I used to think like u 5 yrs ago when i am car-less.
Everything use my 'kar', or take taxi everyday still cheaper type of thing...
but now e car is indispensable...
If Coe drop back to 5k? would u buy a car?

For myself, am more concerned about the running costs of the car father than the loan, cos it is a constant cash drain. Considering my home is quite centrally located and my workplace is near my home and accessible by his and train, I doubt I would buy a car even if COE drops back down.
Hehe as for the car being indispensable, that's cos you had it for 5 years and your life is now structured around it.

I started with one (used car) after i had worked for more than 10 years, due to necessity of new job scope. I changed to a new car after 3 years, and i used it till it is 7 years old before i scrapped it.
I am the one who been labelled as "kiam" (stingy) among my peer.
Since i did not required the use of a car, i scrapped it and became a new member of the "no-car" club, with members like Musicwhiz, hyom and probably many others

Errrmmm. I don't have a licence even. That'd qualify as an even bigger failure in some of my colleague's opinion.  Sad to say, can't blade, can't ride, can't cycle, can't drive... Wheels and me just don't see eye-to-eye.

i come across someone who is a very good engineer and headed a manufacturing department but can not drive. He looks normal in everything except there is a "rumour" that he is not gifted at all in "mechanical co-ordination". i don't think he is a failure.
WB:-
1) Rule # 1, do not lose money.
2) Rule # 2, refer to # 1.
3) Not until you can manage your emotions, you can manage your money.
Truism of Investments.
A) Buying a security is buying RISK not Return
B) You can control RISK (to a certain level, hopefully only.) But definitely not the outcome of the Return.
