anyway, my favorite verse is actually 6 characters instead of the usual 5, 7 or 4 characters verse:

Why the 4th line only has 4 characters?

I would have added 晚霞 to make it a 6 character verse, without changing the rythm and mood of the verse.

wsreader, this is 词，not 诗。 天净沙 is the defined "pattern", which has 28 word, cannot change .

天净沙 is indeed the "pattern" or 曲牌名, for the 28 words format.
I have added legs to the snake, 惭愧, 惭愧.
