This thread has been dormant for a while. I am also struggling to find a screener that includes screening stocks that are Net Cash(Cash - borrowings), Cash(Cash - total liabilties), Net Cash > Mkt Capitalization, etc.

I find that most of the screens offer pretty standard filters(e.g. P/E, P/B, ROE, yield, etc) but those are incomplete to my criteria.  Sad

Any ideas ?

Or do we have to build our own program to download data from data sources(maybe Bloomberg, etc) and manipulate the data ourselves ? Confused

Thanks in advance. Heart

I think if you're willing to pay, there are some which may fit your criteria. I'm not sure though.

I'm usually worried about the quality of data produced by screeners, because I believe most of them are operated by bots which just cut and paste data without necessarily understanding the nuances of the different accounting items.

For instance, a company with high unbilled receivables but low trade receivables may be computed by the screener to have a fast -- and hence healthy -- turnover of trade receivables.

To avoid being possibly mislead by their data and analysis, I only rely on the main source. This bring us back to the annual report.

Similarly, certain companies whose earnings and assets are hidden by accounting procedures (e.g. one-off impairments, asset valuation at historical cost, etc) will probably not show up in your, say, "lowest p/e" or "lowest p/b" screen. But the market knows this, which is why they're trading at higher than what may seem to be normal p/e and p/b, and not in the "lowest p/e" and "lowest p/b" screens.

So using screens can also cause you to lose out on some of the good catches.

The safest way is to go through each company with a fine-tooth comb. It is tedious at first, but do it often enough and you'll become very quick in knowing if you're looking at a potential investment candidate.

You can try out this stock screener which I built to filter stocks based on a certain criteria such as selecting the top 50 stocks with the highest market cap to form your investment universe. Other screening criteria include dividend yield, target price and return on equity.

Perhaps a sign of the changing times, AI is now available. Hope someone come out with something similar but more geared towards SGX listed stocks, should be interesting to compare our "manual" stock picks with AI.  Big Grin

In a way, the stock market is a pari-mutuel system. So when this AI scoring system defines itself over a 3 months period, the tendency for it to drift towards pari-mutuel is ever more true. Ie. rather than waiting for the companies behind the ticker to create value for shareholders via their products/services, it places weightage on momentum/sentiment factors which is betting against fellow buyers/sellers.

Danelfin’s AI Scores can be useful to decide which stocks and ETFs to add, hold, or discard in your portfolio, taking into account a 3 months investment timeframe.

Perhaps the below is the most informative statement in the entire page Big Grin

"Kevin Tok, our co-founder and executive director, posed this challenge to us: Can AI beat human fund managers and analysts in stock selection? The proxy for this would be Aggregate’s own Aggregate Value Fund (AVF), Kong coined this contest “Machine versus Human”. I share both the founders’ innate curiosity and the result is this new column for The Edge Singapore.

For the next 12 months, the proprietary AI of Kong’s team will pick 15 stocks. We will publish the purchase price of each stock and the portfolio valuation. The AI portfolio will be rebalanced once a month. It is a real and “live” portfolio starting with an investment of US$500,000 ($710,510)...."
