I think GDP per capital means very little...income disparity, % of top earners, % of low income earners etc tells a more accurate picture.

U go and see how many 40+ and 50+, jobs replaced by the FTs... anmd the FTs earning $200 to $300K per year... all a lot of talking cock type... even headhunters are foreign talent???

That is the type of economic growth our leadership has produced.

They say we should be welcome FTs... 30%... I think our parliament should also have non incumbent ruling party talent... about 30%...
competition of minds bring better policies.

Agree?

Agree. That's the point. When those people in parliament are affected, then we may have the "Use the "Local 1st policy". Right now it only affected us common people; left and right so why should they (Papys) care so much as far as GDP is O. K. for "them". Ha! Ha!

Personally, I feel the our purchasing power is indeed one of the highest in the world. The currency is strong and we are able to buy a lot of goods and services at reasonable price, compared to other developed countries.

One may feel resentful to the FT for drawing high salary. But we couldn't have achieve such height without the MNC. So I think its fair, if an MNC choose to employ FT and pay them well. We also got to thank the low-wage FT, who help us clean park, wash plate and build road. They are reason for our high purchasing power.

Please feel free to disagree.

The currency is strong, because they want to control inflation which is caused by the food prices (out of our control), rising rent and soaring transport costs (within our control). And also to attract people to buy real estate here, so as to be anchored here. When the people sink in huge $, u bet they will do all to protect their interests here.

Can you share how many MNCs you have worked, what roles you see the FTs play type of roles, and how many are CREATING jobs or generating new capabilities for singapore?

An FT who gets PR, becomes a property agent. An FT who becomes a headhunter, an FT who becomes HR recruitment staff, a credit card operations centre... how rare and precious are such 'talents'?

Lots of FTs in the following industries.

Semiconductor industry. (electronics engineers)
Construction. (civil engineers)
Shipyards and oilrigs. (mechanical engineers)
Hospitals.(nurses)

And they are doing useful works that are shunned by locals.

If you can afford the TIME and MONEY to travel overseas, only then, you'll appreciate the value of a strong S$! Big Grin

If you're stuck in Singapore, you have to understand the LORDs and SERFs relationship that exist here. Few will be privileged enough to become LORDs. Most will end up as SERFs, slaving for the rest of their lives, bonded by their DEBTs (mortgage, car loans,...). The solution is to become a MERCENARY, neither a SERF not a LORD. You have to determine your own FATE - Set your own GOALs, Make your own PLANs and mostly importantly, EXECUTION.

There are many approaches, you can read them here in this forum from many successful forummers. Obviously, since this is an Investing forum, SAVE and INVEST is one of the approach one can learn here.

So, ya, don't keep complaining about the LORDs and continue to stay as a SERF. Do something about it...(aside from threatening to use your VOTES every 4-5 years)...Tongue

PS. I know someone's going to say I drank too much 'KOPI'..Big Grin

In some other countries, that's what they think they're doing. In actual fact, they're being manipulated by other LORDs or LORDs wannabe. Go read 'Animal Farm' by George Orwell to gain an insight...TWO LEGS GOOD, FOUR LEGS BAD....Rolleyes

IMO, there's no such thing as a perfect system. What's ideal for you may not be ideal for me.. and vice versa. What we should focus our time and energies on is to understand the system - it's strength and weakness, ride on it's strength, exploit on it's weakness (within legal limits) and benefit from it. In the case of Singapore, we have stability - politically, economically,..etc. I think it's the best place to make $$ and it'd seem, many FTs also agree and that's why they're here.

So, why not focus your time and energies to make $$. As long as you are not a SERF, you'd learn to appreciate that FT SERF or LT SERF, no difference, they're there to serve you and make your life better...Big Grin

PS. Too bad if you prefer to sit and complain, dreaming that you can make a difference by changing the LORDs. You'll likely end up serving new LORDs and remaining... as a SERF! Confused

Well, I guess you benefit from strong SGD. Isn't that great?
If you are a boss, and you choose to pay your pretty secretary $100k a year doing nothing, can anyone stop you? maybe your wife?

You're right that those job aren't value adding to economy. But, there are many other jobs that FT create. Please don't forget MNC are foreigners.
