There are stories behind for the rise in value and the price IMO

Same same two. But they only 10% of my portfolio. Why don't you hold Starhub?

Just curious.....what's the other 90%?

Around 25% in REITS (Maple Family, Capital Family, etc), 20% in Retail Bonds (CapAsia, F&N), 30% in large/mid caps (Singtel, M1, Singpost, etc), 25% in smallcaps (Challenger, UMS, Taisin, etc), Total 24 counters.

IMO, Starhub's biz will be most affected with emerging of national fiber broadband network. It is either i am wrong, or it is yet to come. Tongue

minimum dmg to starhub ...starhub is the opco of fiber broadband networks..it resells each fiber point to the retail service providers... Then the rsp will sell to consumers...effectively every fiber optic user indirectly pays $$ to starhub....

I wouldn't disagree Starhub will benefit from its OpCo, Nucleus Connect (NC), although we are yet to see its impact on Starhub bottom line.

I wouldn't also dismiss the fact that the new fiber network is eroding its cable network margin, or worse market share. Starhub is still promoting its cable network package, while others are actively promoting fiber network package is a telltale.

Starhub pay-TV service is prefer over MioTV, mostly due to its stable cable infrastructure. After the fiber network becoming the de-facto network, Starhub's edge will disappear.

this argument of of fiber network eroding cable network margin is the same for singtel and m1's adsl network too...m1/singtel users who switch to fibre boardband will most likely terminate their existing adsl connections too...even if the fibre network is to become the de-facto standard for delivering content...every telco or service provider must still pay nucleus connect for every point they sell to customer...

I will again not deny every fiber customer is paying nucleus connect, but would like to highlight that the payment is gross, not net. The profitability is yet to be seen.

FYI, the NetCo, OpenNet is also being paid, with >3x more per customer, but I believe it's still in red now.

I agree M1 needs to replace its adsl customers, but it is a very small segment, mainly inherited from Qala acquisition in 2009. The impact is minimum.

Investing in Singtel is more of an asset story, rather than a growth story for me.

(vested in M1 & Singtel, but no Starhub)

M1 fiber offering is up an ante today, with 200 Mbps package with similar $39/month.

M1 offerings are always a discount to Singtel and Starhub ones, which are about $10 more on average.
