The irony is that the old king thinks the new king is not aware of the political danger the new king is in by being too cozy with pro-biz Thaksin. IIRC Thaksin was so successful and powerful that the monarchy's power was diminished, and thais don't really like the crown prince.

The other irony is of course the yellow shirt couldnt win an election. What exactly is a people's council that the Democrats are so called supporting indirectly? Appointed government by the King? So the Democrats become an oxymoron? This is not dissimilar to Hamas being elected yet unrecognised, but there are greater powers at work.

Thailand is effectively stuck between a rock and a hard place. Status quo is best for now until the new king comes... then it will get complicated. Thaksin knows he will outlast the old king.
