Q: Is it appropriate to perform recitation while we shave, cut our nails or pick our ears as long as we are not doing it in the washroom?
A: Do you think it is appropriate to do so? How would you define "respect"? Performing recitation is like having a telephone conversation with Bodhisattva, a kind of spiritual connection with her. Hence it is visible – just like facetime; do you think engaging in such acts during this time are acceptable? (No) What about lifting and checking out your legs or digging your feet? Can you do all these while performing recitation? The fact that you are asking such question shows that you are not reciting enough _*Heart Sutra*_ .
